It was delicious! Congratulations team GentleChefs (a.k.a. Higgins team). They won over the judges with their fancy eggplant Cannelloni. Some of the other competing professors included Faller, Kuhl, “Stroeve,” “Risbud,” and everyone’s favorite advisor Brad. We also had some great judges, Sean Beecroft, Professor Ristenpart, and Industry rep. Muzhda Ferouz. Thanks to all of you who participated in the event, we will most likely be doing it again next year so stay tuned!
Picnic Day 2009 was magical! We served about 2600 servings of our famous liquid nitrogen ice cream, great job everyone! We also had a ton of fun making a mess showing kids how to make bouncy balls and lava lamps. Our departmental BBQ was so popular that line went on for days…poor Professor Stroeve! I would have to say that it was a fun Picnic Day we had a lot of volunteers and the weather was nice. Great job freshman reps. you guys did a wonderful job planning the event. See ya there next year!
The conference started out with a bang! Friday night there was an awesome social that started at the colleges, where we had the most Guad’s burritos I have ever seen and then we headed to the Grad for a little bit of country dancing and Karaoke! Saturday’s conference went smoothly thanks to everyone who helped. The Chem Car ran!!!! Then kept running and running…but it’s ok, our team will work it out for next year and dominate the 2010 conference! Overall great job guys I hope you all had a blast!
The last general meeting of spring 2009…if you missed it you missed out. Sean raffled off a ton of great AIChE merchandise from t-shirts to beakers! The officers for next year were also announced. Congratulate Matthew Yu if you see him, he’s our new president!

Dinner with Industry
Inna and Ian did a great job planning DWI! 11 companies attended the event. The mini career fair was a great opportunity to talk with the company representatives. This year there were no company presentations during dinner so everyone was able to talk to the reps at their tables during dinner. Well, GREAT JOB GUYS, thanks for all your hard work!
Second General Meeting
Professor Bill Ristenpart, UCD Alum and former President of AIChE, was the guest speaker. He talked about his research, internship experiences and the good old days of AIChE. We also discussed the ChemE vs. MechE game. We decided to challenge them to a soccer game.

We BEAT the MechEs! Go AIChE! The final score was 4-2. Quite a few people showed up so that was awesome. If you enjoyed playing, we’re going to have an IM team this spring.
